If Not for Music Partners with the Kennett Flash

Our Gift of Performance mission area gives aspiring musicians professional opportunities to perform within the community. However, many new artists struggle to find high quality, professional venues in which to perform.  Thanks to a new partnership between If Not for Music and the Kennett Flash, in Kennett Square, PA, it’s become a whole lot easier.

The Kennett Flash is a nonprofit performing arts organization which operates a 100-seat, all-ages, stage-centered, BYOB, café-styled listening room.  The venue showcases professional national, regional, and local talent for diverse events in music, comedy, children’s programs, and more. “The Flash is a great venue for the aspiring musicians we help through our Gift of Performance mission area,” noted If Not for Music’s President Jae Winter. “This partnership really helps move this mission area forward,” she added.

It is so difficult to break through to a professional performing arts center. The importance of this booking through If Not for Music cannot be overstated. It will make us all better musicians while giving us a chance to share the music we love with the audience
— Francesco Protasi

First up, February 27, is the Hansen- Protasi group. A sextet comprised of four horns, bass, drums, and occasional vocals. They bring a fresh, inspired take to jazz standards, while keeping classic energy that people will relate to. Francesco Protasi is thrilled with being booked at the Flash. “It is so difficult to break through to a professional performing arts center. The importance of this booking through If Not for Music cannot be overstated. It will make us all better musicians while giving us a chance to share the music we love with the audience,” he stated. And on March 27, Papyrus will be performing. Papyrus is a five-piece original funk-pop group from West Chester, PA, with a heavy jazz influence inspired by Amy Winehouse, Sade and fusion artists like Herbie Hancock.

The costs of underwriting the events at the Flash are covered by local sponsors, allowing 100% of the ticket revenue to be dedicated to our Gift of Learning Fund that supports the music education of those we serve. Come out and give a listen! And check back here regularly to learn about future performances.
